We are not issues

I was reading Rachel Held Evans yesterday (as the crazy, subversive, revolutionary I am), and a phrase jumped out at me: nobody likes to be reduced to an issue.

Well, of course not.

So just a reminder as we delve into different topics/post pithy infographics and memes online that just happen to coincide perfectly with what we think and therefore absolutely NEED to be posted…

I present to thee a few guidelines:

  1. If it puts down people who disagree with you, don’t post it
  2. If it’s demeaning to people who disagree with you, don’t post it
  3. If it isn’t nice to people who disagree with you, don’t post it
  4. If it’s sarcastic, mean spirited, and one sided DON’T POST IT

I’m not meaning to be super cranky here, but I’m getting tired of seeing this kind of stuff.

Being on the internets does not excuse you from being kind.

Do not reduce your friends, relatives, even people you really don’t like (love your enemies…hmmmm…who said that?) to an issue.

Every person is a human being, right or wrong. Remember that.

State your opinions respectfully.

Let’s be kind.
